WINCHESTER - A Malaysian businessman accused of helping to fix soccer matches for a Far Eastern betting syndicate yesterday said he had received large amounts of money from Indonesia for predicting results.
The prosecution says Mr Heng Suan Lim was sent more than £500,000 from various Far Eastern sources which he used to pay off members of the match-fixing ring. But Mr Lim told the court that a wealthy Indonesian businessman called Mr Johannes Josef had regularly sent him the money in exchange for inside information which would help him bet in the Far East on the results of English matches.
