Man arrested over 1986 murder

A man (51) has been arrested in Manchester following a renewed investigation into a 23-year-old Belfast murder.

A man (51) has been arrested in Manchester following a renewed investigation into a 23-year-old Belfast murder.

Detectives from the PSNI Crime Operations Department arrested the man this morning as part of a joint operation with Greater Manchester Police.

He is being held in connection with the death of Stanley Close (65) on August 25th 1986.

Mr Close was found strangled to death at his flat in Campton Court in the Willowfield area of east Belfast.

The suspect will be brought to Northern Ireland for further questioning.
