A man (52) charged with criminal damage following an incident at RTÉ Television Studios at the weekend has been released on bail.

Mr Paul Stokes, of Montpelier Parade, Monkstown, County Dublin, was released on his own bail of €1,000 after he appeared before Dublin's Bridewell District Court this morning.

Mr Stokes was arrested on Saturday night after a Nissan Micra car was driven through a security barrier on the RTÉ grounds before coming to a stop at the revolving doors into the station's television building.

Speaking in court this morning, Mr Stokes called for the charge of criminal damage to be struck out.

He said: "I am looking to have the charge struck out on the basis I have been communicating with RTÉ for eight to ten weeks with a device on how to stop all road deaths."

He was advised by Judge Aingeal Ní Chondúin to retain the services of a solicitor.

Mr Stokes was bailed to reappear on January 15th.
