Man dies after car collides with truck in Tipperary

Gardaí investigate crash on the M8 near Cahir

A man in his 80s has been killed in a road collision near Cahir, Co Tipperary.

The victim died when his car collided with a truck on the M8 southbound in the townland of Raheenrow at about 2am. He was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

The driver of the truck was uninjured. The deceased was removed to South Tipperary Hospital where a postmortem examination will take place later today.

The road is currently closed to facilitate an examination by Garda forensic investigators, and diversions are in place.
