Gardaí in Cork are investigating an incident in which a man died after falling into the River Lee.

Gardaí in Cork are investigating an incident in which a man died after falling into the River Lee.

The student (19) fell off a wall into the river last night at about 9pm. A lifebuoy was thrown to the victim, but he was unable to reach it due to strong currents.

Following intensive rescue efforts by the emergency services, the man was taken from the water some 20 minutes later. He was taken to Cork University Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
