Drogheda District Court yesterday heard how a man put his hand through a glass door of a shop before dripping blood on to a woman and her three-year-old daughter.
Martin Maguire (27), of Rathmullen, Drogheda, Co Louth, admitted assaulting Ms Martina Hughes on May 16th last year at Ballsgrove, Drogheda.
The court heard how the woman was walking past a shop in Ballsgrove when the defendant confronted her and would not let her pass. Insp Vincent Rowan said that when he eventually let her pass he verbally abused her and then put his fist through a glass door in a shop and let the blood drip on top of her and her daughter.
Mr Donal Branagan, solicitor, said his client had considerable drink taken and had paid £40 compensation for the damage to the door, which had only amounted to £25.
Judge Brennan said it was a fairly obscene thing to do and must have terrified the unfortunate lady. He imposed a three month sentence, suspended on a bond to keep the peace for two years.
