A man (22) has been arrested in connection with the death of Pierce Reid who was killed in a gangland attack last August.

The 25-year old was shot in the head a number of times as he lay on the ground outside his home in Lealand Close, Clondalkin on August 7th, 2009.

A BMW 5 series car, which was believed to have been used by the killers of Mr Reid, was later found abandoned.

Mr Reid was a father of one and was expecting his second child at the time of his killing. Gardaí said the victim was well known to them.

The shooting of Mr Reid is believed to be connected to two separate shootings that took place in July 2009 and which is thought to be part of a continuing feud between two west Dublin gangs.

The man currently being held was arrested in the Clondalkin area this morning. He is being questioned at Clondalkin Garda station under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.
