Man held over hoax devices

A man in his 40s is in custody after he was arrested following the discovery of two hoax devices in Limerick last night.

A man in his 40s is in custody after he was arrested following the discovery of two hoax devices in Limerick last night.

Two suspect devices were found during the search of a residence on Maiden Street, Newcastle West, shortly after 10pm.

The search was conducted as part of a planned operation, gardaí said.

The area around the house was evacuated and the Army's Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) team was notified. The devices were discovered to be hoaxes.

A man, who was arrested over the find, is currently detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939 at Newcastle West Garda station.
