A man was injured with what is believed to have been a stun gun during a robbery at a jewellery shop in Cork today.

Two men entered the shop on Oliver Plunkett Street after 3pm and attacked a man working there with what gardai believe was a Taser shock weapon.

They stole jewellery from a window display and also from a cabinet in the shop, before making their escape in a vehicle driven by a third man, a Garda spokesman said.

He said it was believed the jewellery was worth a "substantial amount" of money, although the exact value was not immediately known.

No further description of the getaway vehicle was available but gardai have asked any witnesses to contact them.

It is understood the man working in the shop was hospitalised but not seriously injured.
