Man injured in Cork shooting

A man is receiving hospital treatment following a shooting incident at a pub in Cork city.

A man is receiving hospital treatment following a shooting incident at a pub in Cork city.

The incident occurred at the Mo Chuisle pub on Blarney Street in the northside of the city shortly before 7pm.

It is understood the man, who is in his 20s, brandished a shotgun in the pub, threatened customers and that gardaí were then called to the scene.

A Garda source said the man had failed to drop the weapon and that an officer had discharged a shot, injuring  the man in the stomach.

He is receiving treatment at Cork University Hospital.

The incident is to be investigated by the Garda Ombudsman Commission.
