A Kerry hairdresser was jailed for four years yesterday for the manslaughter of a cyclist. Peter O'Donoghue (42), of Gurteen, Listowel, had originally been sentenced to 12 years.
O'Donoghue was also disqualified from driving for life.
O'Donoghue had pleaded guilty at the Kerry Criminal Circuit in Tralee yesterday to the manslaughter of Fergal Foster (16), of Main Street, Blennerville. O'Donoghue was found to have an alcohol-blood level of 243mgs.
Giving recognition that O'Donoghue had pleaded guilty and taking all mitigating factors into consideration, Judge Sean O'Leary felt an appropriate sentence would be one of four years with a disqualification for life from driving.
