A man in his 70s has died following a two car collision on the main Cork to Midleton Road.
It is understood that the man was heading towards Cork city on the incorrect side of the N25 dual-carriageway when the crash happened just after 11.30am today.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident which happened at Harper’s Island between the Little Island turnoff and Cobh Cross junction.
The driver of the other car, a man, was removed by ambulance to Cork University Hospital but his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.
Gardaí have closed off the road to allow a forensic crash investigator examine the scene and diversions are place via the old Cork Road and Glouthaune village.
