Two men were hospitalised in Cork yesterday after one was shot and the other beaten during a dispute in the seaside town of Robert's Cove near Kinsale, Co Cork.
Gardaí from Bandon are investigating the incident which happened after a German man in his early 40s was arrested on suspicion of drink driving.
When the German was released from Garda custody at around 4.30am yesterday he returned to Robert's Cove and become involved in an altercation with a group of men during which a firearm was discharged.
A man in his 30s received pellet wounds when he was shot in the abdomen and in the hand during the incident.
He was taken to the South Infirmary Hospital for treatment but was subsequently transferred to Cork University Hospital. His condition is described as stable.
Meanwhile, the German man, who is living in Cork, received serious injuries when the group of men attacked him.
He is also being treated at Cork University Hospital but his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.
