Gardai in Longford were keeping a presence last night at the Willow Park halting site on Strokestown Road in the town, where a man in his 20s was shot in the chest with a crossbow dart during a row between two Traveller families.
The injured man, named locally as Mr Patrick McGinley, was taken to Mullingar General Hospital, where he was said to be stable.
