A man who received gunshot wounds to the face when he was attacked at a house in Rathfarnham, Dublin on Thursday evening remained in a stable condition at St James's Hospital yesterday.

The incident occurred in Mountainview Park at about 7.30pm, when an unidentified assailant gained access to the house and fired at least one shot into the victim's face. Other people were in the house at the time but were not injured and the gunman fled on foot.

The victim was brought to St James's Hospital, Dublin where a spokesman said he was in a stable condition yesterday evening. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

Gardaí in Rathfarnham are continuing to investigate the incident, and have conducted a technical examination of the scene.

It was unclear yesterday if there was any link between the shooting and an ongoing gangland feud in the Dublin area. No arrests have been made.

Separately, gardaí in Limerick are investigating a shooting incident in the city, also on Thursday evening, in which a woman in her 20s received minor injuries.

The attack occurred at approximately 8.15pm, when shots were fired at two houses in the O'Malley Park estate in the Southill area of the city. The female victim was taken to the Mid-Western Regional Hospital for treatment, but she is not thought to be seriously injured.

Meanwhile, gardaí in Howth, Co Dublin said last night they had ruled out foul play following the discovery of a man's body in the area yesterday morning.

The body of the man, believed to be in his 20s, was discovered behind an apartment block on Balscadden road in Howth at about 8am. The Deputy State Pathologist, Dr Michael Curtis, attended the scene.
