The State has decided to discontinue the prosecution of a man who denied raping a Wexford woman on the doorstep of her home.
Prosecution counsel, Ms Maureen Clark SC, said a nolle prosequi was being entered and the Director of Public Prosecutions was not seeking to have a new trial.
Ms Clark made her comments yesterday as trial dates were being fixed at the Central Criminal Court for 60 rape and murder cases. Mr Justice Morris discharged the man.
Following a three day trial, a jury failed to reach a verdict in the case despite deliberating for six hours last Friday.
