Trinity College Dublin is ranked 15th in the world for mathematics, the QS World University Rankings by subject show.
Irish universities featured in the top 200 for 24 of the 26 subjects examined.
Electrical engineering was inside the top 200 for seven Irish third level institutions.
University College Dublin and Trinity College Dublin stand within the top 50 for politics and sociology and within the top 100 for economics, law and finance.
The ranking compared subjects using academic and employer reputations as well as academic paper citations.
