The mobile Bank of Ireland service to the Mayo towns of Belmullet and Achill will pay its last visit to both locations today.
There has been local anger at the decision by the bank to discontinue its mobile bank services in counties Mayo and Galway.
The move is going ahead despite extensive local petitioning from the towns affected.
Achill-based Fine Gael councillor Mr Pat Kilbane said yesterday that the Bank of Ireland management will not change their decision.
"We had hoped that the bank might at least consider continuing the service to the end of this year.
"The local business and tourists interests need the time to cope with the change, but the bank management in Galway and in Castlebar were not prepared to give in to our requests," he said.
Mr Kilbane said it is ironic that just a few years ago the bank ran an extensive campaign encouraging older people to put their money in the bank rather than accumulating cash in their homes.
"Now when the older generation responded and have got use to the mobile banking service, the service is withdrawn."
