Sunderland manager Mick McCarthy today bolstered his injury-hit squad by signing Wolves midfielder Kevin Cooper on a three-month loan deal.
The 28-year-old, who has made just one appearance in the Barclaycard Premiership this season, has been snapped up after impressing during a short trial on Wearside.
Cooper could go straight into the squad for Saturday's Division One clash with Nottingham Forest at the Stadium of Light, although a lack of match fitness could mean he may have to wait for his debut.
"Kevin's a good footballer who can operate on the left side, and that is a position we have been looking at for most of the season," the former Republic of Ireland boss said. "He has a lot of experience and will be a great addition to our squad."
