Golf:Graeme McDowell has decided to take an extra week to digest the enormity of his US Open victory and will miss next week's French Open. McDowell had planned to compete in Versailles but will now return at the JP McManus Invitational Pro-Am at Adare Manor.
He will then move on to the Scottish Open at Loch Lomond later that week, followed by another crack at the big time with the British Open at St Andrews.
McDowell became the third Irish major winner, after Fred Daly and Padraig Harrington, and the first European to lift the US Open since Tony Jacklin in 1970 when he beat Frenchman Gregory Havret by a stroke at Pebble Beach on Sunday night.
