Golf:Chile's Mark Tullo landed the Egyptian Open with a closing 66 at the JW Marriott Mirage City Golf near Cairo where Rory McIlroy moved up the leaderboard.
Tullo won the €29,000 winner's cheque with a 13 under 275 aggregate, one shot ahead of overnight leader George Murray (72) and Floris de Vries (71) from the Netherlands.
Tullo (32), carded six birdies and an eagle at the sixth plus two dropped shots.
McIlroy made up further ground with a five birdie round of 68 with his only dropped shot coming at the opening hole.
As the week progressed, the 21-year-old appeared to iron out the kinks in his recent swing changes. At six under par 282 the world number nine finished just outside the top 10 and one shot ahead of Athlone's Colm Moriarty.
Moriarty enjoyed a pair of closing birdies in his round of 69 and his finish should be more than enough to secure his place in next week's Grand Final in Italy.
“That was the lowest of the week and it could have been a lot better as well,” said McIlroy after his round. “I played really nicely today and carried it on from yesterday and hit some really nice shots and it was definitely the best that I played all week.
“I missed four short ones for birdie in a row, all inside eight feet, on the back nine so it could have been very, very good but that’s the way it goes.
“It’s encouraging moving forward and for the rest of the season. There was a massive difference between how I hit the ball on Wednesday in the first round and how I hit it today so that’s really good," added Mcilroy who will return home to Belfast to continue his swing rehabilitation.
“Wednesday was really bad - it was the worst that I have ever hit it as a professional, put it that way. Thursday was a bit better and then Friday was good and I carried that into the final round today.
“I had just got into a bad habit so the change was something that I needed to do. I still have a bit of work today next week at home with my coach but I am on the right track so pleased about that.”
The top 45 players on the Challenge Tour standings will now tee it up in the Grand Final in Italy next week and Moriarty (45th in the standings) is one player hoping he can force his way into the top 20 who will earn their main European Tour cards.
