The President, Mrs McAleese, has been described as "a propagandist for the EU" by the Dublin Green MEP, Ms Patricia McKenna. Ms McKenna said yesterday that on several official visits to eastern Europe, the President had lauded Ireland's Celtic Tiger economy as proof of how well small states could do in the EU. "Her acceptance of this simplistic and inaccurate explanation of Ireland's current economic boom is extraordinary considering her own political past and active participation in Ireland's EU critical movement."
