A Northern Ireland man thought to have been swept overboard from a vessel in the North Sea was found safe inside the ship, police said today.

Christopher McGonigle (35) was feared dead after going missing from the dive support vessel Pelicanearly on Saturday while it was around 140 miles east of Aberdeen.

However, he was later discovered suffering a broken leg behind a bulkhead in a storeroom on the ship.

Mr McGonigle was flown to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.
