The mother of murdered apprentice plumber Anthony Campbell has said after a brief hearing of an inquest into his death that she was "confident" gardaí would make arrests soon.
Mr Campbell, (20), of Michan's House flats, Greek Street, Dublin 7, was shot dead as he went about his work in a house at Scribblestown Park, Finglas, north Dublin, on December 12th last.
The target of the attack was gangland figure Martin "Marlo" Hyland, who was also killed by the gunmen.
An inquest into Mr Campbell's death was adjourned for seven months under section 25.1 of the Coroners Act yesterday. Det Insp Brian Sherry of Blanchardstown station told Dublin County Coroner's Court that Garda inquiries into the murder were ongoing. A postmortem by State Pathologist Prof Marie Cassidy found that Anthony Campbell died from a gunshot wound to the head, the court head.
Christine Campbell, who identified her son's body, appealed after the inquest for "anyone with any information to please come forward. I'm hopeful and confident that gardaí will make arrests soon. They have been doing a very good job. This is still a very difficult time for me and my family. It doesn't get any easier," she said.
Mr Campbell was shot in the head in the living room of the house at Scribblestown Park where he was carrying out work when the killers arrived.
Gardaí at the time said he was "tragically in the wrong place at the wrong time".
Investigating officers have said those who called to shoot Mr Hyland unexpectedly happened across Mr Campbell in the house and decided that as a potential witness he should be killed. Mr Hyland was asleep upstairs when the killers arrived. He was shot in the head at least twice as he lay in bed.
Coroner Dr Kieran Geraghty yesterday adjourned the inquest until October 9th and commiserated with Ms Campbell and her family on the "very tragic" circumstances of the murder.
An inquest into the death of Mr Hyland will begin on Tuesday at Dublin County Coroner's Court.
