An investigation is under way in Limerick after the fourth shooting in the city's Moyross housing estate in less than a week.

The incident happened at College Avenue at about 1am yesterday.

Three shots were fired by a lone gunman at a downstairs window of the house, which was occupied at the time, but nobody was injured.

It is understood members of the family targeted in the incident are involved in an ongoing feud in the Moyross area.

A number of shotgun shells found at the scene have been taken for technical examination.

It was the fourth shooting in Moyross in the past week and follows the discovery of a pipe bomb in the area last weekend.

The Army bomb squad was called from Cork last Saturday night to defuse the device, which was discovered outside a house in Pineview Gardens at about 9.30pm.

The discovery followed an earlier shooting in the same estate that afternoon, the third in Pineview Gardens in as many days.

Nobody was injured in any of the shootings which gardaí believe are connected to a local feud involving members of a number of different families.

Meanwhile, two men arrested following the discovery of a handgun and ammunition in Moyross on Tuesday have been released without charge.

Searches were carried out at a number of houses in the estate on the north side of the city as part of an ongoing operation into gun crime in Limerick.

According to gardaí, the handgun and ammunition have been sent to Dublin to be examined.
