Boxing:On a busy night of boxing at the National Stadium Andy Murray retained his Irish lightweight title with a fifth-round stoppage against Oisin Fagan.

Murray is moving in the right direction for a tilt at the world title as the Cavan boxer made it 18 wins without loss, while also in possession of the European Union lightweight title.

Murray was made to work in the early stages as Fagan got the upper hand. However by the fifth round the bout turned in Murray’s favour and the referee had to step in and and stop the fight.

The under card saw Patrick Hyland retain his featherweight title with a win over Mickey Coveney in the seventh-round.
