AA Roadwatch are advising people who are not travelling to the Oxegen Festival in Punchestown over the weekend, to avoid the two main routes to the festival, the main Naas Road, the N7 and the N81 via Blessington, as there will be a lot of traffic congestion.
Festival promoters, MCD Productions, are also advising people to use the special bus services. Dublin Bus is running a service from Parnell Square to the venue, every 20 minutes. The service begins at 11 a.m. today until 5 p.m. and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. tomorrow. There are also shuttle buses running from Naas to and from the venue.
The festival, which starts today and finishes tomorrow night, features a total of 98 acts on five different stages. The main headline acts over the two-day period include The Cure, The Strokes, The Darkness, Muse, PJ Harvey, Massive Attack, Basement Jaxx and Paddy Casey.
MCD Productions are advising against people travelling to buy a ticket at the venue as all tickets are sold out. Festival goers are also advised that all glass containers, cans, bottles and alcohol will be confiscated at points of entry.
Meanwhile, Gardaí have also advised motorists there may be delays in Dublin and on the approaches to the city tomorrow, when two Ulster championship matches take place at Croke Park. Tyrone take on Down in the minor match at 12.45 p.m. Throw-in for the senior encounter between Armagh and Donegal is 2.30 p.m.
Matchgoers arriving via the M1 and M50 are advised to allow time for delays caused by match traffic and the construction of the Dublin Port Tunnel. There are two supervised car parks near Croke Park, at Clonliffe College, Clonliffe Rd, Drumcondra, and O'Connell's CBS, North Richmond St, Dublin 3. Gardaí have reminded motorists that many residential streets around Croke Park are narrow and that illegal parking may cause difficulties for emergency service vehicles. Illegally parked vehicles may be impounded or clamped and may be liable to a fine of €130.
