The aftermath of the 1998 Omagh bombing, which claimed 29 lives, was yesterday recreated in Navan for the filming of a drama feature about the tragedy.

Film production company Tiger Aspect is making a feature-length drama on the continuing search for those responsible and the fight for justice by the families.

Titled Omagh, the drama is being made with the co-operation of the families of the victims.

The family of Aidan Gallagher, who was just 21-years-old when he died in the blast, and whose father Michael has spoken on behalf of the families, figures prominently in the production.

Watergate Street in Navan will be closed to traffic for a number of days. Yesterday it was transformed into the set of the aftermath of the bomb.

The street bears a strong resemblance to Market Street in Omagh where the bomb detonated on a busy Saturday afternoon.

The director is Peter Travis and the cast includes Gerard McSorley, who played a major role in Veronica Guerin. It is financed by the Irish Film Board, RTÉ and Channel Four and will be screened on RTÉ in May. It will also go on general release in cinemas in Ireland.
