Kuwait City - Leaders from six Gulf Arab states ended a summit yesterday with a communique speaking of a "new page" in relations with Iran, but calling on Iraq to show its peaceful intentions with "words and deeds".
The Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) "calls on Iraq to take the necessary steps to confirm its peaceful intentions towards the state of Kuwait and states of the region in words and deeds". The GCC also expressed its concern about the "dangerous escalation due to the tension between Iraq and the United Nations" as a result of the Iraqi government continuing to hide weapons of mass destruction.
The grouping of six oil-rich Gulf Arab states also called on Iraq to implement "all (UN) Security Council resolutions related to the aggression against the state of Kuwait" in August 1990. The communique was issued at the end of a three-day summit in Kuwait of the GCC, which groups Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.
