Nokia has been chosen to supply network technology worth €1,123 million to Cingular Wireless in the US.

The Finnish firm will supply a significant portion of Cingular's nationwide GSM/EDGE network in support of new high-speed 3G data services.

The contract is estimated to be worth over €1 billion, making it Nokia's largest single-system deal.

Nokia says it will supply its high-capacity, end-to-end GSM/EDGE solution for dual-band (850 MHz and 1900 MHz) mobile services, including both core network and radio-access network systems.

It says the contract includes the provision of its UltraSite triple-mode (GSM/EDGE/WCDMA) base stations, as well as the Nokia DX 200 circuit switched core and GPRS packet-core network solutions.

Nokia has also announced a €40 million Nokia Early Stage Technology Fund to encourage an entrepreneurial spirit in the company and provide capital to develop new business ideas.

The fund is the newest venture arm of Nokia Ventures Organisation, which develops business opportunities that fall outside the group's core businesses.
