A bogus policeman was involved in the armed hold-up of a family in their Co Down home last night.
A Downpatrick householder noticed a strange car pull up outside his house. When he went to the front door, a man in a fake policeman's uniform confronted him at gunpoint and forced his way in.
Two other men, who were also armed, followed him into the house. Police said while one man held the householder's wife and three children at gunpoint in one room, the two others took him into another room and demanded money.
A scuffle ensued and eventually the men ran out and made off empty-handed in a red Vauxhall Vectra, said a PSNI spokesman.
