Racing: Halfway To Heaven presented trainer Aidan O'Brien with his 17th Group One win of the season in the Blue Square Nassau Stakes at Glorious Goodwood.

The Irish 1000 Guineas winner was sent off the 5-1 second-favourite and she benefited from a shrewd Johnny Murtagh ride to claim a second win at the highest level.

However, even-money favourite Lush Lashes looked an unlucky loser, getting no sort of run under Kevin Manning before flying home to finish a head second.

Passage Of Time, giving 9lb to both the winner and runner-up, ran a big race to finish the same distance away in third.

Murtagh settled on the heels of pace-setting Muthabara in the 10-furlong heat, with just a steady early gallop for a race of its calibre.

However, Halfway To Heaven's prominent position paid dividends when the pace upped a notch, leaving her with a perfect run through in the final two furlongs.

In contrast, Lush Lashes was buried on the rails in sixth early on and as her rider tried to switch for a run in the straight, he found his passage blocked on more than one occasion.

Although Jim Bolger's filly eventually got a gap between the winner and Passage Of Time inside the distance, Lush Lashes found the line coming too soon.

Murtagh said: "I thought it might be tactical. Aidan said she is very straightforward and to bounce her out.

"There is no point complicating it. We were going nice and steady and I knew I was in the right place.

"She is very brave and very tough. She's come on from the Guineas, she's thickened up well and she's moving well. She wins like this a lot, she is lazy.

"A fast mile is OK and a mile and a quarter is no problem, so she has plenty of options."

"She's a Classic winner, a Nassau winner - the roll continues."

A philosophical Bolger said: "These things happen. Kevin gave an accurate assessment of what happened and I'm not in the blame game, I leave that to others.

"I'm not sure where we will go now. She is in the Yorkshire Oaks and we'll have a look at that, and there is also Leopardstown (Irish Champion). There will be plenty of good days left."

Teddy Grimthorpe, racing manager to Passage Of Time's owner Khalid Abdullah, said: "She has run really well, she probably would have preferred a better pace and the weight for age has probably made the difference.

"She will either go for the Yorkshire Oaks or a Group Two at Deauville."
