O'Donoghue murder trial set for October

The 20-year-old student charged with the murder of a Co Cork boy will face trial in October, it was confirmed today.

Wayne O'Donoghue of Ballyedmond, Midleton, is charged with the murder of Robert Holohan (11) at Ballyedmond, Midleton on January 4th, 2004.

Mr Justice Paul Carney today set October 18th for the trial at the Central Criminal Court sitting in Cork.

Defence barrister Patrick MacEntee SC told the court that neither the prosecution or the defence had seen any papers in relation to the case to which Judge Carney said the book of evidence is a "very slim volume".

Last week, a charge of manslaughter against Mr O'Donoghue was dropped and replaced with the murder charge.

The body of Robert Holohan was found wrapped in black plastic near a secluded Cork beach eight days after he disappeared from his home.
