A family doctor who has treated dozens of people for depression as a result of the 1998 Omagh bombing has won an award for his work.
Dr William McCallion from Omagh was described by one patient as "one in a million" after he helped her overcome the trauma of witnessing the explosion. He was yesterday named in London as the overall winner of the Lundbeck Award for Good Practice in Depression. The award, organised by the British charity, Depression Alliance, includes an £8,000 grant for a mental health project in Omagh.
Dr McCallion was nominated by Ms Patricia McRory (40), who was diagnosed with depression shortly after witnessing the "Real IRA" explosion in August 1998.
