A man in his 60s was killed and two people were seriously injured when a tractor overturned and fell over a cliff on the County Dublin/Wicklow border last night. The vehicle was said to have plunged almost 100 feet.

The injured are understood to be an off-duty garda in his late 20s and a 10-year-old boy. They were taken to Loughlinstown Hospital for treatment.

The accident happened on a farm at the back of The Scalp at Killegar between Stepaside and Enniskerry.

Three units of the Dublin fire brigade, two ambulances, and members of the Dublin/Wicklow and Glen of Imaal Mountain rescue teams rushed to the scene. The accident took place at about 6.45 p.m.

The rough terrain made the recovery of the body and injured difficult, according to a fire brigade spokesman.
