The number of new cars registered in the first seven months of this year is up 4,286 on last year. A total of 91,346 private cars were registered from January until the end of July, compared with 87,060 for the same period last year.
There was also an increase in the number of goods vehicles licensed for the first time, up from 11,594 to 12,975. There was a slight decrease in the number of secondhand cars registered.
