Parents are threatening to withdraw their children from classes at a special school in Co Mayo in protest over what they describe as the appalling condition of the school building.

Parents of the 53 pupils attending St Anthony's Special School in Castlebar agreed last night to stage a one-day protest on October 25th. The parents say the school's decayed prefabricated buildings are not fit for human habitation.

The Minister for Education, Dr Woods, is to meet representatives from his Department on the crisis today.
