Police investigating the serious assault in Derry yesterday morning have appealed to the drivers of two cars to come forward.

Detectives believe the drivers may be able to help in the hunt for a gang of four youths who attacked a man on Rosemount Avenue in the early hours of yesterday.

A spokeswoman said today they were looking for the driver of a white car who slowed down at the scene of the attack at around 5am. "The driver spoke to the victim to see if he was okay," the spokeswoman said. She said a dark-coloured Mondeo taxi also slowed down at around the same time.

The victim is fighting for his life in hospital following the attack.
