New TD Maria Bailey, who secured 10,489 first preferences, has been a councillor representing the Killiney/Ballybrack ward on Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council since 2004. Her father, John Bailey, was also elected to the council that year. Bailey lives in Killiney and is the mother of two young children. She says she bought her first home at the height of the property bubble, and this has given her an understanding of the pressures faced by self-employed people rearing young families and coping with large mortgages. She says her areas of political interest include planning, economic development, housing and health. Having suffered with migraine since she was 16 years of age, Bailey has been active in creating an awareness of dealing with the condition. She is an avid runner. – Mary Minihan
