Mary Mitchell-O'Connor of Fine Gael topped the poll with 10,817 first-preference votes. First elected to the Dáil in 2011 alongside running mate Seán Barrett, she was principal of Harold Primary School in Glasthule, Co Dublin. She was previously elected to Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council as a member of the Progressive Democrats in 2004. Mitchell-O'Connor joined Fine Gael in 2007 and was re-elected to the council for the party in 2009. She has been a prominent backbencher in the Dáil from her very first day when she mistakenly drove onto the plinth at the front of Leinster House and then drove down the steps towards the exit gate. She would have hopes of a ministry in a new administration. She is divorced and has two sons.

* Seán Barrett (FG) was returned automatically in this constituency as outgoing Ceann Comhairle
