The government has got the green light to proceed with plans to hold a referendum on the Eighth Amendment after the Supreme Court ruled that the unborn has no constitutional rights outside the right to life in Article 40.3.3.

On today’s Inside Politics podcast, political editor Pat Leahy and Hugh Linehan discuss Wednesday’s landmark unanimous judgment by the seven-judge court, which clarifies the constitutional position of the unborn.

Later, political sociologist at Queens University Belfast, Dr Katy Hayward, has written extensively on the possible solutions to the question of the border with Northern Ireland after Brexit.

She discusses the options provided for by the so-called December agreement, the realities of regulatory alignment, and why a technological solution cannot make a hard border soft.
