Sinn Fein TD Martin Kenny has claimed the Garda Siochána Ombudsman Commission have told him they cannot investigate his allegations of Garda malpractice.

Mr Kenny held a meeting will Gsoc on Tuesday over his claims of malpractice in his constituency of Sligo-Leitrim

He said he was told the alleged incidents happened over a year ago and therefore the organisation cannot investigate them.

“The meeting was very cordial but it confirmed what I already knew,” he said.

“That despite what they said they did not investigate all of the allegations that I referenced and now they cannot.

“I will be writing to the Minister for Justice seeking a meeting with her. If GSOC cannot investigate this a Commission of Investigation must be established.”

Mr Kenny made a series of allegations of Garda malpractice under Dáil privilege. He has alleged that “rogue” gardaí were using criminal informants to entrap people and then prosecute them.

Outlining a series of alleged incidents, Mr Kenny also claimed high ranking gardaí were protecting these rogue gardaí and covering for them with secrecy and denial.

He alleged gardaí were running their own informants outside the rules of the Covert Handling of Intelligence Sources programme.

Gsoc insisted some of the allegations had been already investigated but they were happy to meet Mr Kenny to discuss the claims.
