A possible suicide bombing at the railway station in Zhengzhou, one of China's biggest transport hubs, killed two people today two days after Premier Wen Jiabao visited railway employees in the city.
The early morning explosion on the second day of the Lunar New Year holiday ripped through the first-floor railway station ticket hall at Zhengzhou, capital of the central province of Henan, Xinhua new agency said.
One person was killed on the spot and another died in hospital, Xinhua said. Three people were wounded.
Xinhua quoted police sources as saying the blast was "possibly a suicide bombing". It did not elaborate.
Zhengzhou is the main stop on the important Beijing-Guangzhou railway line. Rail officials in the city had no comment.
On Thursday, the eve of the Chinese New Year, Mr Wen visited railway employees in Zhengzhou promoting rail as en efficient means of transporting goods, Xinhua said.
Chinese New Year sees hundreds of thousands of people travel back to their home provinces for the holiday, but few people are on the move on the second day of the break.
