The price of petrol is at its lowest level so far this year, according to a survey conducted by the AA.
The price of petrol fell 1.1 cent from last month and it now costs an average of 89.2 cent a litre according to the survey.
The survey also points out that diesel has fallen 4 cent since April bringing the average price per litre to 82.6 cent.
AA public affairs manager Mr Conor Faughnan said: "We have been lucky so far this year. High oil prices have been offset all year by the strong euro and it seems likely that Irish motorists will enjoy relatively cheap fuel for the short term."
The AA warns that prices vary widely from one service station to the next. The AA's latest research shows that petrol is cheaper in Cork and Kerry and slightly more expensive in the border counties.
"No matter what area you live, our advice is to shop around and show your loyalty only to the garages charging the cheapest price," Mr Faughnan added.
