Police in the North are investigating two attempted abductions of young boys yesterday.

In the first incident the occupant of a blue Ford Transit van tried to entice an 11-year-old boy into the vehicle on the Ardmore Road in the Waterside area of Derry at 5.30 p.m.

The van drove off as another vehicle approached the scene. Police want to talk to the driver of this vehicle - believed to be a metallic green "people carrier". They are hopeful its occupants can provide information on the blue Ford van.

In a later incident at 8.50 p.m., in Omagh, Co Tyrone, one of three male occupants of a blue Ford transit van tried to drag a 13-year-old boy into the vehicle, but the boy managed to escape.
