Police in the North have seized a number of firearms as part of an investigation into an attempt by loyalists to blackmail a businessman in Co Antrim.

A sawn-off shotgun, a handgun, ammunition and other items were
discovered in houses in the Ballysillan and Silverstream areas of north Belfast.

The weapons were taken away for examination.

The seizure followed the arrest of five men last night as part of an operation
involving the organised crime squad. It is investigating the attempted extortion of money from a businessman in the Nutts Corner area of Co Antrim.
