A woman charged with the murder of her teenage daughter at the family home in Co Kilkenny in November has been sent forward for trial. Fiona Gartlandreports.
Lynn Gibbs (46), of Killure, Gowran, who worked as a psychiatrist with the HSE, appeared at Dún Laoghaire District Court yesterday before Judge Clare Leonard.
Ms Gibbs was arrested and charged with her daughter's murder last month.
Ciara Gibbs (16) was found dead in a bath in her home on November 26th. A postmortem examination revealed that she died from drowning.
Ms Gibbs has been undergoing psychiatric treatment since the death of her daughter last year. She is currently a patient at the Central Mental Hospital, Dundrum, Dublin. The court heard yesterday that the book of evidence had been prepared, and the case would be sent forward for trial at the current sitting of the Central Criminal Court.
An application for legal aid was made on behalf of Ms Gibbs, and was granted by the judge.
The defendant was remanded in custody until her trial.
