Dublin Rape Crisis Centre is appealing for volunteers to sustain its services in the face of an increased demand since the publication of the Ryan and Murphy reports into child abuse.

Mairead Mallon, manager of volunteer services with the centre, said yesterday 40 extra volunteers were now required to cover its 24-hour helpline and to accompany victims attending the sexual assault treatment unit at Dublin’s Rotunda hospital.

She said the centre was keeping services going at the moment because its existing volunteers were “going the extra mile”.

Those interested should be female, over 25 and living in Dublin. Contact them by next Tuesday, January 26th, on 1800 77 8888 or e-mail volunteerservices@rcc.ie
