First known as The Originals, and then as the New Originals, these legends of Hair Metal didn't fully impact until they changed their name to Spinal Tap. Rob Reiner's 1983 documentary about their US tour is now acknowledged as one of the funniest films ever made. Now re-issued in a new print and showing at the IFC, Spinal Tap looks set to win over a whole new group of fans. In the meantime, David St Hubbins has been working on an "all scat" version of Bizet's Carmen; Nigel Tufnel has become an inventor - developing folding wine glasses and Derek Smalls took over his father's telephone sanitation system before joining the Christian rock band, Lambsblood.
