ZURICH – A group representing Swiss victims of traffic accidents has launched an initiative to ensure that speeding drivers spend time in jail.

Protection from Speedsters handed over the more than 100,000 signatures needed to launch a national referendum to the Swiss authorities, seeking to change the constitution to impose jail sentences of one to four years for speeding.

“The victims of speedsters and their families have life-long suffering, pain and grief. The offenders on the other hand usually get off with a short suspended sentence.” – (Reuters)
